Research in the Scheuring lab concerns development and application of atomic force microscopy (AFM) based techniques, notably pioneering the current trend of establishing high-speed atomic force microscopy (HS-AFM) that allows us to capture the dynamics of individual unlabeled biomolecules. Our main research interest concerns membrane proteins, such as transmembrane channels, transporters and receptors, as well as membrane-associated proteins that modulate the shape, the physical properties or the composition of the membrane. We are using chemical and physical cues to stimulate the membrane proteins and observe them at work.
